PLANNING
School 2 is an Elementary School in the City of Troy. It is also a "Community School", meaning, in addition to academics they provide social and medical services to the surrounding community. This new Community Wing is intended to better house these services.
This space began as an underutilized art room and abandoned locker rooms doubling as storage space. The goal was to transform this area into a community space to serve parents and a medical & dental suite for students.
INTERIOR
HDG embarked on an extensive renovation involving asbestos abatement, completely gutting of the space: removing existing walls, ceramic floors, wall tiles, and ceiling.
Three new zones were designed: an Administrative, Community, and Medical Suite. The art room turned "Community space" now includes a private meeting room, lounge, kitchenette with full-scale appliances, laundry room for uniforms, and food pantry. The new Medical Suite received a reception area and dental space and exam rooms. A dedicated HVAC system was installed, new roofing, suspended cloud ceilings with contemporary lighting, and ADA bathrooms.
A separate conference room was also designed near the existing Library with audio video and data incorporated.
